TEACHERS, staff and the wider Alresford community have come together to create a unique video to welcome pupils back to schools.

Perins School has recorded a parody of You’ll be Back from the musical Hamilton featuring headteacher Steve Jones as King George.

Written by the school’s creative arts department, the short film invited staff and the town’s community to get involved by singing or dancing along to an extract of the song, but not knowing the finished result.

The school said they were overwhelmed by the response, with many businesses, parents, teachers and students all taking part in the project.

A school spokesperson said: “At Perins School we thought our students deserved a return to school fit for Royalty! We've rolled out the red carpet to welcome them back with open arms! Our students, like many, have shown true resilience and commitment towards their education throughout this lockdown, we are so immensely proud of them and their fantastic efforts.”

The video shows Mr Jones wearing a cape and crown singing along to school’s version of You’ll Be Back, alongside snippets of those who got involved with the project.

Creative director Marilitsa Alexiou said: “Perins School wanted to welcome the students back and a put a huge smile on their faces. After a long lockdown winter it felt wonderful to work on a creative project again. The students are the beating heart of Alresford which it why it was so important to include the local community within the film. The creative arts department especially have been waiting for the day we can say You’ll Be Back and no matter what, so will the arts!'”

The school has said that the video is not just for its students but for all those who will be returning to classrooms on Monday after months of virtual teaching.
