SIR: Paul Openshaw's letter last week about the future of the Debenhams site was interesting (Chronicle, February 11).

I suspect that the site is too large to be completely used by small businesses, but the ground floor, with street access, would accommodate many small units and the higher floors could be converted to residential apartments.

The combination of small enterprises and residential units would bring more life to the city centre and reduce the need for green belt housing development.
