MORE than half of all staff working for the trust which runs Winchester hospital had received the Covid-19 vaccine by the middle of January.

A report to Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust (HHFT) board of directors shows that 3,441 of the 6,000 staff who work for the trust had been vaccinated by January 14.

The trust received the Pfizer Covid vaccine on January 4 and began administering it to staff in Basingstoke and Winchester on January 5, and Andover on January 12.

The report said: “The team did a phenomenal job of setting up the vaccination centres, recruiting and training vaccinators and configuring IT and communications systems to get the vaccine rolled out as quickly as possible.”

Priority was given to those in the highest risk groups and roles, including frontline staff.

The trust was asked to work on vaccinating additional groups of health and care staff after the first HHFT staff vaccinations were complete.
