ANGRY residents have slammed a fly-tip that blocked a Test Valley lane, with one woman believing it could have "cost someone their life".

Plastic chairs, wooden drawers and household items were found sprawled across a lane that connects Romsey Road and Roman Road just outside of Broughton on Tuesday.

Residents have condemned the criminal on Facebook, with one woman writing: "It is not only disgusting, but in some situations it could [have] cost someone their life if emergency vehicles couldn't get through."

One Romsey woman believes the vehicle used to dump the rubbish should be confiscated, adding the culprit should be fined and made to "pay the clear-up cost".

However, one man believed rubbish disposal should be made "easier and economical for tradesmen", adding: "It must cost thousands of pounds to clean up fly-tipping."

Conservative Nick Adams-King hit out at the "selfish and thoughtless" fly-tipper, but said a number of people have already come forward with information that could help track them down.

He said the waste had been cleared on Wednesday, adding: "We will of course be sifting through these items and examining them forensically. If that provides details of the source or who dumped them TVBC will prosecute."

Members of the public who saw the fly-tip happen or have any information should contact TVBC on 01264 368000.

This comes after a Southampton teenager was told to pay thousands of pounds in fines and costs after illegally dumping parts of a bathroom just before Christmas 2019.

Brad McKenner, of Dewent Road, was also prosecuted for failing to have any of the licences needed to dispose of the waste lawfully.

McKenner did not possess a waste carrier or scrap metal licence, despite advertising both services.

TVBC launched an investigation after the waste was dumped in Roman Road, Chilworth.

Following a successful prosecution McKenner was ordered to pay a total of £2,294 in fines and costs.
