CARE home residents are one step closer to hugging their families after receiving the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination.

The Brendoncare Foundation announced 50 residents and 56 staff at its Knightwood care home were given their first jab.

A team from St Francis Surgery, in Valley Park, visited the Chandler’s Ford home to give some of their residents and staff the vital injection.

Their second vaccination should be administered in 12 weeks, a spokesperson from the foundation confirmed.

Two residents and 12 staff are yet to be vaccinated, but will be given the jab another time, the spokesperson added.

General manager Charlotte Gilbert said: "The residents felt honoured to have the vaccination, it was a sense of relief. "We can now all see light at the end of the tunnel and look forward to life back to normality.

"It was very important for all the residents and staff to be protected."

The NHS has now vaccinated a total of 6.5 million people, according to data released by the Government yesterday.
