CHIEFS at Alton School are confident that pupils are engaging with online learning.

Its Alton@Home programme, which is back in full swing for prep, senior and sixth form, has been designed to mimic a classroom virtually.

Teachers and support staff have worked hard to be ready to hit the ground running and ensuring that pupils at Alton School get the very best teaching and support via Microsoft Teams.

Karl Guest, who started as headmaster at Alton School during the first lockdown said: "The day-to-day operational running of schools has been continually adjusting to reflect changing guidelines. From social distancing, hand washing and face masks to remote teaching and lateral flow testing, the challenges are many, but the ingenuity and adaptability of schools has been incredible.

"At Alton School we celebrate not only academic achievement but also the resilience students have demonstrated in recent months, overcoming great uncertainty and showing their determination to perform on a virtual stage and capture the excellent progress that they have made during their time at Alton School.

"We have a fantastic team of teaching and support staff who all work incredibly hard to achieve the very best results for all our pupils, always putting individual progress and each child’s wellbeing first."

Moving into his third term Mr Guest is clear about what the immediate priorities are: "These are to keep our schools safe, to focus on the very best teaching and learning and to ensure the wellbeing of all our pupils and staff.

"We are one school, at the centre of which is a continuous educational and pastoral journey which is planned strategically for every student from 6 months to 18 years.

"Our aim is to see each one of our pupils through from start to finish, whatever the situation, with careful guidance, compassion and the very best teaching."
