SIR: I have been reading that the pavilion project in North Walls was slightly in doubt (Chronicle. I say slightly because this is a project that was agreed by most of the Councillors to progress with. I have supported this from day one as a councillor and always as a local citizen. I think it's been a wonderful courageous project. I was assured that it was not just for the elite, it was for the whole of the City community, obviously to be respectful of its use.

There was a little anxiety that it might have been seen as being just for the community of Hyde and with certain selective societies and clubs and not for the whole of the community, but I know that this is not the case and never has been. This project should be forwarded on, pushed on as quickly as possible. The team that has been raising money for this has worked unceasingly. As the dark days that we have experienced pass, we will need this kind of facility, people will need to be out there and experiencing the outdoors. The cricket, the tennis, you name it, anything that can help outside there will be a hunger for this kind of facility and so it should be. You have to remember that it is also offering indoor facilities for some celebrations because it has to be viable for its upkeep.

As regards to the architectural side, as long as the materials that are being used are weather worthy and it has an appeal in its constructions, that will be a great advantage and should also be made sure of. To stop this now would be ludicrous. In fact the council should put their heads together whatever the political persuasions are and get it done. We actually can't afford to keep having failures of good projects.
