SIR: I was horrified to follow a European registered heavy goods vehicle as it was required to negotiate the entry/exit from the Winchester direction, presumably headed southbound from Winnall on the M3 or A34 by having to transit the whole of the Alresford-Bishop’s Sutton bypass and back again to regain the Westbound carriageway at the Alresford end.
Surely this is an absolute waste of time and energy? It cannot be the turning circle at the Alresford end roundabout is too tight for articulated lorries, as the one they have to turn round at the Ropley end looks the same, if not tighter.
I note with approval the comment which raises the point of the ‘triage’ being opened far too early, as the predicted worst case scenario of an avalanche of unready paperwork has not yet occurred.
The alphabetti spaghetti before and after my name indicates that I am a (Europe qualified) chartered engineer.
