POLICE have dropped an investigation into an alleged rape in a Winchester suburb.
A major investigation was launched after reports that a woman was attacked in woodland at Whiteshute Ridge, Badger Farm in July.
But today the police, after enquiries by the Chronicle, have revealed that the investigation has ended with no one being arrested or charged.
In a statement, the police said: "We received report of a rape of a 31-year-old woman in Winchester on 19 July, which was reported to have happened in a wooded area behind Ivy Close and Honeysuckle Close, Badger Farm.
"A full and thorough investigation has been conducted, and all identified lines of enquiry have been followed. The decision has now been made to file this investigation.
"Should any further lines of enquiry be identified, or information come to light, the case will be reopened."
