FOLLOWING the closure of Bellmans Auctioneers in Winchester Rushbrooks Auctioneers and Valuers will open on January 4 at The Red House in Hyde Street.

This is where auctioneer and valuer Iain Rushbrook has worked for nearly 40 years.

Iain first started work in Winchester in 1979 alongside Jimmy York in what was then Pearsons in the Tower House Saleroom, having originally trained with Harrods Estate Offices and auctioneers in London.

With the expansion of the business the move was made to the beautiful Red House in Hyde Street. Subsequently Iain became a director of both Phillips, Son & Neale and Bonhams Auctioneers who had acquired the business.

Iain, who was at school in Winchester, sees the auction rooms as an integral part of city life and is very much looking forward to continuing to be able to offer an auction and valuation practice for all aspects of the sale and purchase of art and antiques with a particular emphasis on silver, jewellery, watches, pictures, Asian and Islamic art, luxury and designer items, including Hermès and Louis Vuitton.

Iain will be joined by picture specialist James Harvey, the two of whom had originally worked together some 30 years ago in Winchester for Phillips, Son & Neale. James who is very well known in the art world has previously worked in London and New York for both Mallet and more recently The Fine Art Auction Group. Iain and James will be supported by the existing team and familiar faces at The Red House of Sonya Wiebers, Fabio Caliri and Jacob Carpenter.
