THE charred remains of a burned out car have been left in a Winchester city centre car park.

The vehicle was destroyed in a fire oon Friday in the unloading yard behind the row of shops on Upper Brook Street and the Casson Block of St George's Street.

It is not known how the fire started and whether or not it was targeted by an arsonist. The police have yet to respond to a request for information.

The fire was only a few yards from flats above the shops on Upper Brook Street.

A relation of the owner told the Chronicle: "I know who set the car on fire in Upper Brook Street, I have told the police but they have done nothing.

"We were supposed to be going to identify the person on CCTV on Saturday but the police haven't even contacted us."

Asking not to be named, she added: "It was a targeted attack, on my daughter's boyfriend's car, by her abusive ex-partner. The police haven't even arrested him, it's shocking to be honest, they don't seem to be interested."

A police statement said: "We were called at 3.41am on Saturday 28 November to reports of a vehicle on fire outside an address on Upper Brook Street, Winchester.

"Officers are investigating and believe the fire to be arson. Anyone with information can phone 101 with reference 44200460261.
