A MAN was found dead by a council worker at an Eastleigh park.

Martin Michael Weldon, 58, was pronounced dead in the woodland of Fleming Park during the morning of June 2.

Mr Weldon was found hanged in woodland towards the back of the park.

He was discovered by council workers passing by at around 6.25am.

An ambulance was called to the scene and paramedics arrived with a minute, reaching the area at 6.26am. Mr Weldon was pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquest into his death revealed he had taken his own life by hanging.

The court heard how Mr Weldon was a “gifted artist” and one of seven siblings. He was “creative” in his younger years but was working at a recycling plant before his death. It was understood that Mr Weldon did not enjoy his job.

One of Mr Weldon’s sisters told the court that the death of his parents some years before had “affected him dreadfully”.

Mr Weldon’s sister also said during the inquest that he had been arrested on suspicion of “downloading indecent images” a few months before.

She told the court: “He was a talented artist and a creative person. We are devastated.”

Mr Weldon’s sister explained how he had began seeing a woman in November 2019, stating that they had an “on and off” relationship.

The night prior to his death, Mr Weldon had argued with his girlfriend over personal matters.

Hampshire Police told the Daily Echo that there are “no records of any investigation into Mr Weldon”.
