A WINCHESTER man has been banned from the road for driving with excess alcohol.

Ruari Metcalfe, 28, was driving a 57-reg Renault Clio when stopped by police on Black Dam way in Basingstoke on September 30.

His alcohol reading was 113 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the legal limit is 35, making him more than three times the limit.

Metcalfe, of Winchester Avenue, Barton Farm, was at Basingstoke Magistrates Court to admit the offence.

The magistrates disqualified him from driving for 23 months, ordered he complete 40 hours unpaid work over the next 12 months, pay a £95 victim surcharge with £85 costs.

The ban will be reduced by 23 weeks if by February 20 2022 Metcalfe completes a course approved by the Secretary of State.
