A SCHOOL in Brighton Hill has closed after members of the school community test positive for coronavirus.

Manor Field Infant School has closed and total of 158 students are now in isolation until the November 27.

It comes just days after the school reported one case of Covid-19 on Sunday, November 15.

It is the second school in Basingstoke that has been forced to shut because of the virus.

The Vyne School closed last week and the school community are still in self-isolation.

Headteacher of Manor Field, Susie Pietrzak, confirmed today that the school had recorded two positive cases of the virus.

She said the decision to close the school was made “reluctantly" after NHS Track and Trace instructed that all bubbles should self-isolate.

“I am not in a position to comment on the number of cases in the area and, for reasons of confidentiality, I am unable to provide any detail relating to individual cases connected to this school.

“I can confirm, however, that despite there being just two cases confirmed, NHS Track and Trace has instructed all bubbles to self-isolate and, therefore, I have reluctantly had to make arrangements for those pupils who are well to continue their learning with us by remote means."

If no further cases are reported the school hopes to welcome everyone back on 27 November.
