A HEARING is due to take place to discuss the development of Mercury Marina.

In Eastleigh Borough Council’s Local Plan, the marina in Hamble-le-Rice was outlined for a mixed marina and leisure development which could include a hotel.

The planning inspector tasked with examining the Local Plan however indicated that she would be prepared to support a residential development instead.

The council are said to be against residential buildings at this location and have now requested that the inspector considers further evidence against the housing.

A hearing is now set to take place on January 5, where the council will put forward evidence against housing at the Marina.

Council Leader Keith House said, “I am pleased that the Inspector has agreed to a further hearing to consider further evidence regarding Mercury Marina.

"The Council remains firmly opposed to any housing on the site particularly because of the poor traffic access on Satchell Lane and the complete lack of pedestrian facilities to the nearby Hamble Academy school.

"Our further evidence sets out the case against housing in more detail.”
