A MEMBER of the school community at a The Costello School has tested positive for coronavirus, it has been revealed.

The school notified parents this morning that a single person has tested positive for the virus.

In accordance with guidance from Public Health England around 40 students are now self-isolating.

Headteacher Randall Jull confirmed that today the school had received the news of their first, single, positive coronavirus case.

Mr Jull told the Gazette that the school had been working with the relevant authorities to take "the appropriate next steps", including informing the DfE and Local Authority.

He added: “The safety of our students, staff and the wider public is of paramount importance to us and we have robust measures and procedures in place to protect all members of our school community. 

“This incident is isolated, with around 40 students self-isolating as a result. All parents and carers are aware of the situation and we would like to thank them and our community for their support.”

The Costello School is the latest educational place to confirm a Covid case in the area, with The Vyne School and The Clere School doing so recently.

It is the tenth school to report a Covid positive case within the last 14 days in the borough.
