TWO more people have died in hospitals operated by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, it was reported today.

The trust operates the Royal Hampshire County Hospital although it is unclear where the two patients died.

The recent steep rise in Covid numbers in Winchester has levelled off. In the last seven days including today, there have been 174 reported cases compared to 177 in the seven days previously. This is the first time for months that the figures for two weeks ago have been higher than the last seven days.

The daily figures for the Winchester district today is 23 new cases, bringing the total to 1,293, an infection rate of 1,035.6 per 100,000 people since the start of the crisis in the spring.

‘Winchester district’ comprises more than the city and is the city council area which stretches from Micheldever in the north to Southwick in the south, from Sparsholt in the west to Bramdean in the east.

Data shows that the infection rate in the Winchester district in the seven days to November 4 is 148.2 people in every 100,000.

Today there were 254 cases reported in the Hampshire County Council areas bringing the total to 12,680, an infection rate since March of 917.2 per 100,000 people.

The number of deaths in the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation hospitals, which includes the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, has risen by two to 177.

For the other local trusts: Portsmouth, 247, the same; Solent, 2, same; Southern Health, 17, same; Southampton, 218, same.

Deaths in local authority areas are Winchester: 83; Portsmouth: 84; Southampton: 130 and Hampshire 772 (including Winchester), up two.

Sometimes the reporting of deaths in hospitals is not in synch with the reporting for council areas and vice versa.

Nationally, 21,350 new cases were reported today, down on the 20,572 yesterday. This brings the total to 1,213,363. Some 661 people have died in county hospitals.

Today in the UK, 194 people who had tested positive for the virus within the last 28 days, have died.

The numbers of people being admitted to hospital continues to rise. There were 150 in hospitals across the south-east region, up from 65 a week earlier. Today there are 849 patients in hospitals, up from 613 a week ago. Fifty-three are on ventilators, up from 36 a week ago.
