THE railings of Winchester Cathedral have been lined with poppies in memory of our fallen soldiers.

Ready for Remembrance Day, Sue Butcher has sewn hundreds of poppies onto 26-metre long stretch of netting.

The chairman of the Woman's Section in Hampshire and Winchester also made a hanging wall which is in Debenhams' side window.

She told the Chronicle: "I wanted to show Winchester that we care and will always remember the fallen.

"I have been a member of the Women’s Section for over 20 years and have been Chairman in Winchester for 18 years. I have been Hampshire County Chairman for two years.

"I have never been in the service but always support them.

"It took me a long time to sew all 26 m of poppies on to the nets.

"My husband John helped me put the nets on the railings in the morning.

"In the afternoon we met the Mayor and put the poppies on the railings at Abbey House.

"Also in Debenhams side window is a wall hanging I made. Just a little help to help the Poppy Appeal."
