CORONAVIRUS cases in the Winchester district are still climbing steadily.

The daily figure today is 27, bringing the total to 1,180. Some 171 cases have been reported in the last seven days.

The figure for the previous seven days in the district was 201, which means there has been some improvement.

‘Winchester district’ comprises more than the city and is the city council area which stretches from Micheldever in the north to Southwick in the south, from Sparsholt in the west to Bramdean in the east.

Data shows that the infection rate is 137 people in every 100,000 for the last seven days and 945.1 since the start of the crisis in March.

Today there were 299 cases reported Hampshire-wide. Only 244 were reported in the county yesterday, showing a steeper increase.

This brings the total to 11,491.

None of the hospital trusts in Hampshire have reported a death according to the latest figures released this evening.

The figure for fatalities at the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is still 172.

For the other local trusts: Portsmouth, 242; Solent, 2, same; Southern Health, 17, same; Southampton, 214, same.

Nationally 25,177 new cases were reported today – nearly 5,000 more new cases than yesterday. This brings the total to 1,099,059.

There are currently 12,320 patients with Covid-19 in UK hospitals, and 1,142 of these are in ventilator beds.

According to the Government website, 492 coronavirus deaths were reported today, brining the total to 47,742.

The UK is now entering a second lockdown.
