WORK is set to be carried out on part of the M27 today and tomorrow, with roads bosses warning drivers to plan for delays.

Here is all you need to know.

What are the closures?

One lane is set to be shut on both the Westbound and Eastbound carriageways between Junction 8 for Bursledon and Junction 9 for Park Gate.

The closure will impact the stretch of road to the west of the Hamble Bridge.

Work started at 6am this morning and will continue until 8pm tonight. The lane closure will then again be in place tomorrow between the same times.

Although a small stretch of road, Highways England has warned drivers to expect delays.

Why are the lanes being closed?

Its roads team says the work is being carried out in preparation for the installation of a new signage gantry posts.

Can't they do this at night instead?

Unfortunately, no - due to noise!

Highways England says teams will be using a piling rig and inserting interlocking sheets into the soil to enable the installation of the gantry sign posts. This work is known as ‘sheet piling’.

They added: "The work was originally planned to take place overnight, but following sheet piling work at a number of other locations, and the impact that this activity can cause to local communities when carried out overnight, the programme has been changed so that this work can take place during the day."
