THE Cricketers pub in Easton could be closing for good.

In an email seen by the Chronicle, Gary Swan who runs the pub told local residents that he has “taken the decision to close”.

Mr Swan said: “It is with a heavy heart, I have taken the decision to close The Cricketers.

“I would just like to take this opportunity, to thank you all for custom and loyalty over the past nine years.”

The pub’s website is now out of action.

The Chronicle has contacted Mr Swan and Itchen Valley Parish Council and awaits a response.

The closure comes just weeks after the Greene King-owned Willow Tree in Durngate Terrace announced it would be shutting.

The Queen’s Head in Fisher’s Pond is also shut. It is also owned by Greene King, which plans to shed 800 jobs and close dozens of pubs nationwide after trade slumped following the 10pm hospitality curfew set by central Government.
