A NEW case of coronavirus has been confirmed at Winchester University, bringing the total number of cases at the establishment to four.

Last week the Chronicle reported that three students had tested positive for Covid-19, one of those living at Cathedral Point Halls.

Now another student has been confirmed as having the virus. All cases at the university are said to be unrelated.

A university spokesperson said: “There are currently four positive, unrelated cases of coronavirus at the University of Winchester.

"The university remains open, with students and staff who have not been advised to self-isolate, attending as normal and students and staff are urged to continue strictly following social distancing.

“The diagnosed students and a small number of their close contacts are self-isolating in accordance with government guidance.

“We are offering support and advice to those concerned, helping them to self-isolate for the recommended period and get medical attention where necessary. We have also launched a dedicated Covid Careline for anyone self-isolating or concerned about someone who is self-isolating. Further information and guidance for staff and students is available through the university’s intranet and Live Chat tools.”
