SIR: Your front page headline (Chronicle October 1, 'Hospital under threat') could have been “Improved Healthcare in Hampshire” with a sub-text that some services will no longer be delivered in the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.

Then in your Editorial you contrast changes “best to serve the people on north and Mid-Hampshire” to “what people want”. Which people? Just those in the Winchester area who might have to travel further to get the best care? I am confident that the medical needs of the residents of Winchester and Eastleigh will be met more effectively by centralising some specialist services in the new hospital, and through hospital doctors providing care in clinics locally nearer people’s homes.
