SIR: What is it about our sports and leisure centres that the LibDem administration at Winchester City Council are trying to hide, I wonder? At the last meeting of their cabinet (on September 16), I asked about the new sports and leisure centre in Winchester but my questions were unanswered - as you reported on September 24 “No Lib Dem councillor addressed his comment”. I asked for an update about the Meadowside centre in Whiteley at the council meeting last week. My written question received a partial response with various issues raised being completely ignored. When I pressed for answers at the meeting, I was told I would receive replies but then subsequently told I would not. This is indicative of a pattern of behaviour from this administration, where questions from councillors and members of the public are routinely ignored or at best partially answered.

The Liberal Democrats were elected last May on a manifesto commitment to transparency. It is clear that they are going out of their way to ignore this. How can they be trusted to keep their other promises when they can’t even keep this most simple of pledges? Is it because they have something to hide?
