THE city's iconic buses from the 1900s will return during Winchester Heritage Open Days.

Following the success of the running day at the start of the year, the Friends of King Alfred Buses (FoKAB) confirms its plans for Saturday September 19.

Participation in Heritage Open Days has become an annual event for FoKAB and the theme for this year is to display as many as possible of its collection of rare and historic buses and coaches.

This will take place at the Cattle Market car park in Worthy Lane between 10am and 4pm and will have 12 vehicles, ranging in age from 1931 to 1970.

A spokesperson said: "To meet coronavirus requirements this year it will not be possible to offer free vintage bus rides or internal viewing of vehicles but instead FoKAB will run a cavalcade of vehicles starting from the Cattle Market.

It will pass through City Road at 4.05pm, the Broadway at 4.10pm, then via St George’s Street to Romsey Road at 4.15pm, Chilbolton Avenue at 4.20pm, and finally Andover Road.

"Individual vehicles will also circulate through the city centre every half hour or so during the day so as to be seen in their natural setting."

All timings are approximate and subject to traffic conditions.

In line with all Heritage Open Days events available to visit in person, arrangements are subject to any coronavirus restrictions that may be put in place by national or local Government.
