WINCHESTER Litter Pickers were out an about on Bank Holiday Monday focussing on the City Road, Jewry Street and railway station area.

They were joined by city MP Steve Brine, who said: “I’ve supported the Winchester Litter Pickers for years and they really are the best of our big society in the city. The volunteers turn out whatever the weather and tidy us all up. We are so lucky to have them.”

The litter pickers have been active for some three decades, picking up tonnes of rubbish across the city centre and main roads into the city, supplementing the work of the city council.

Chairman Eddie Woodnutt said: “It was good to welcome Steve back once again to actively join us in our endeavours to keep Winchester as litter free as possible, particularly on a Bank Holiday!”
