CHERITON residents are urging the county council to fix several hazardous potholes in the village.

Richard Mack first asked the highways team to repair the damage on the B3046 in December last year.

But nine months later, the work still has not been completed – despite a local councillor saying it had.

Mr Mack's neighbour Jan Conway who has also submitted complaints, said: "The county council aren’t taking phone calls on roads issues during lockdown therefore there was no effective way to escalate our complaints, so as neither Richard nor I had had any satisfactory response from them, we agreed that I would email Cllr Rob Humby.

"We were astonished to receive his reply on August 17 stating that all potholes works on the B3046 deemed necessary to meet HCC’s “safety intervention criteria” had been completed by the contractor.

"As this was clearly not the case we followed this up yesterday 19th August with a further email to Cllr Humby copied to the Leader and CEO of HCC with the photos attached here and requesting urgent action before an accident occurs."

Ms Conway added that the potholes are "potentially hazardous", particularly to cyclists and pedestrians.

"I first complained to HCC in May 2020 after a lockdown walk when I counted and photographed a large number of potholes and carriageway damage on the roadway extending between the North End Lane turn-off from the B3046 to Richard’s and my driveways," she said.

"I registered my complaint about all the potholes via the pothole reporting form on the HCC website, with several follow-ups in June and July.

"Although the website reported that the problem had been passed to contractors I was unable to obtain any information about when and what repairs would be carried out."

The Chronicle has contacted the county council and awaits a response.
