THE coronavirus infection rate has risen in Winchester, but fallen in other parts of Hampshire.

The district saw rates increase 2.4 new cases for every 100,000 residents in the seven days to August 17, up from 0.8 the previous week.

But the latest figures released by Public Health England show that rates in Southampton have decreased to 4.0 new cases for every 100,000 residents in the seven days to August 17, down from 5.5 the previous week.to

In Test Valley have gone up to 6.3, from 0.8 before, and in Eastleigh, infection rates have increased from 1.5 to 6.0, and in the New Forest, from 1.7 to 3.3.

In Fareham, rates also went up, at 6.9 cases for every 100,000 residents, from 1.7 the week before.

Coronavirus infection rates have risen in Portsmouth, from 2.8 to 3.3.

New data is released each week and shows how rates of positive coronavirus tests are changing in each area.

The figures, for the seven days to August 17, are based on tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community.
