WINCHESTER education company, Flying Colours Education has won the Prestige Award for Best Learning Centre of the year in the South.

Only founded in January by two local primary school teachers, Ann Selman and Hannah Porteous Ward, it is dedicated to providing high quality, creative learning opportunities for little learners.

They hold their after school art clubs, pre-school groups and small group learning classes at the Winchester Discovery Centre

The judges were impressed with Ann and Hannah’s personal nature, consistency of positive reviews and the passion for delivering high-quality learning. Their popularity is apparent in their growing Facebook and Instagram following, now 1,700+.

Hannah said: “We are so excited to receive this award. We are passionate about giving children the opportunity to learn and grow and are proud that we have been able to successfully do this even during lockdown. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the end of August for revision sessions and welcoming back our budding artists in September.”

During lockdown, Flying Colours Education took the decision to move lessons online and began additional parent helper sessions to help support parents as they navigated the world of homeschooling. These were a huge success and provided help to parents with young children.

One parent said, “The classes were a brilliant find during lockdown! Whilst sceptical about my daughter engaging via a zoom call, Ann created a warm and welcoming environment and encouraged my daughter to contribute. The classes were well planned with interesting and varied content to keep children engaged/focused. The detailed weekly feedback was extremely useful and kept me informed of my daughter’s progress. Most impressively, my daughter looked forward to her daily classes and was keen to complete any homework set.”

In April, Flying Colours Education began a charity fundraising initiative called Fun with Phonics to help raise funds for NHS Charities Together. Donations made by parents for their children to take part in weekly online phonics sessions helped the littlest of learners during lockdown and helped raise money for NHS families.
