A CAFE set to take customers back in time - with the help of Saints legends - has opened its doors to the community.

Legends Cafe is now open on Shirley High Street, with its name inspired by a legendary defeat, when Southampton Football Club won the FA cup in 1976.

But it won’t just be an average cafe, as owner Andrea Hollywood will be showcasing her collection of former players on the team.

Although it is filled with white and red tables to mark the team’s colours, the 56-year-old manager said she doesn’t want it to be known as a football cafe.

Andrea, who has owned The Boat Shop Cafe in Woolston for three years, said: “When I decided I’m going to buy it, we gave it a refurbishment.

“Legends Cafe will have old footballers on the walls, but not in-your-face football - I don’t want it to be known as just a football café as it’s also got a lovely garden, which has been transformed.”

While growing up in Southampton, Andrea collected the photos and put them into frames. Now, they line the walls of the cafe.

Saints Legend Matt Le Tissier was present for the opening of the cafe, where they gave out raffle tickets for free breakfasts.

The cafe will have the same menu as The Boat Shop Cafe, which includes a range of breakfasts, dinners, lunches, paninis, baguettes, and coffee.

Andrea added: “I’ve had people working on it day and night, maybe a fortnight, and I’m hoping we can be an outlet. People need something new."

Legends Cafe is situated at 102 Shirley High Street, where Tucks Cafe used to be.
