ROGUE traders knocking on doors and asking to jet wash driveways and patios have been targeting elderly and vulnerable people in Tadley, police have warned.

Basingstoke police have issued a warning to residents in Tadley, as well as Pamber, that the cold callers have been offering services including gardening work, and they are urging people to look out for their neighbours.

“If you see something unusual, speak to your neighbour to check all is in order or contact Trading Standards or the police if you feel it is a crime,” said PCSO (police community support officer) Ireland, adding: “Trading Standards strongly advise residents not to agree to work that is instigated as a result of a cold call. Residents should obtain at least three written quotes from reputable businesses or traders who are either members of the Hampshire County Council Trading Standards Buy With Confidence scheme or a recognised trade association.”

Members of the Buy With Confidence scheme are fully audited to ensure their trading practices are legal, honest, and fair. All members have been checked for trustworthiness and compliance with consumer protection laws.

Police in Basingstoke are also warning the public about a suspicious person falsely identifying as a housing association surveyor and asking to enter people’s home and take photographs.

Police are advising the public to contact their housing association first before letting anyone inside.
