THROUGHOUT lockdown Compton Lock has been at the centre of antisocial behaviour.

Last month litter was strewn across the ground and groups of people became so rowdy that police had to authorise a dispersal order.

So whilst a councillor, who asked not to be named, was doing her daily litter picking in the area, she came up with the idea to host a poster competition for the children of Compton, Shawford and Twyford.

The idea was to create a poster telling people to pick up their litter and keep the beauty spot near Winchester as clean as possible.

Tess Belcher, six, was named as the winner and local business Jude’s awarded her family with as much ice cream as they could carry.

Mint Signs will now produce the poster into professionally-made signs that will be installed around the Compton Lock Area.

Twyford Parish Council hopes to make this a yearly competition to show the importance of picking up and taking away litter.

Details of the event next year will be announced nearer the time.
