A WINCHESTER High Street coffee shop looks to have closed and staff made redundant.

Starbucks has been shut since the lockdown in March and whilst other shops such as Costa have reopened, ten yards away on the other side of the precinct, Starbucks has remained in darkness.

A member of staff emailed the Chronicle: "The franchise in ownership of the Starbucks in Winchester High Street this morning announced its closure following the mandatory closure since Covid 19. The store closed its doors on 23rd March but has not since reopened. Staff were informed via Zoom call they would be made redundant."

Starbucks have been approached for comment.

Other establishments to shut for good in Winchester include River Cottage and the City Cobbler on the High Street.

Also not reopening is The Clothes Line, the dress hire shop at the bottom of the High Street by the River Itchen.

A note on the door says: "We have made the difficult decision not to reopen The Clothes Line. Thank you for all your support and friendship over the last 27 years - Ali and the team".
