TRIBUTES have been paid to a longstanding servant of Winchester Cathedral.
Simon Barwood, media and communications officer, died on Monday of a heart attack.
Mr Barwood started as a lay clerk in 1997 and developed a great understanding of the Cathedral through his role in the choir, which he applied in his next role, in the marketing and communications team.
Canon Annabelle Boyes, Receiver General and Canon Treasurer, who worked closely with Simon over the years, said “It is deeply upsetting news that Simon has passed away and he will be sorely missed. He was an incredibly popular member of the team and Cathedral community. Our prayers and thoughts go to his family.”
The Dean of Winchester, the Very Rev Catherine Ogle, said “Simon was a faithful and cherished member of the community. He will be sadly missed.”
Details of a memorial service will be announced soon.
