A Dacia Duster had crashed with a DAF lorry, causing a diesel leak.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "We were called at 10.14am to reports of a collision on the A31, at the Oars Meadow Lay By, between a Dacia Duster and a DAF lorry. There was a diesel leak from the lorry which caused a blockage on both the eastbound and westbound carriageway.
"A road closure was subsequently put in place between Percy Hobbs and Alresford roundabout. Highways England attended to deal with the spillage. No injuries were reported."
Motorists are being urged to take an alternative route.
ROMANSE, Hampshire County Council's online travel service, tweeted: "Alresford Road remains CLOSED W/B and lane 2 E/B due to ongoing oil spillage at Ladycroft Crossroads, delays building on approach."
