SIR: Like many, I am baffled by the new approach the council are introducing for collection of garden waste (Chronicle, June 9, 16). Along with the recent introduction of bottle collections, each ‘opting in’ household is expected to have space for four waste containers (Rubbish, recycling, bottles, green waste).
Sure you can opt out of the new green waste bin scheme and secretly deposit your grass cuttings and leaves in your neighbours’ bin when they’re asleep.
Or you can opt in, pay a new fee for a green waste container, and store it conveniently in front of your house to help pedestrians socially distance from the pavement.
Rethink it, please.
