PATIENTS being treated at hospitals in Hampshire have trust in the doctors and nurses caring for them, a new survey has revealed.

In the annual CQC survey of inpatients, Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which runs Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital, in Winchester, and Andover War Memorial Hospital, has scored 9.3 out of 10 when patients were asked whether they felt they were treated with dignity and respect while in hospital.

The Trust was then scored a 9.6 out of 10 for patients being given enough privacy when being examined or treated.

It was also given a 9.2 out of 10 when patients were asked if they were well looked after by our non-clinical hospital staff.

Julie Dawes, chief nurse of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I would like to thank our patients for taking the time to respond to this survey, which is one of the many ways we look to hear what our patients think so that we can continue to improve the care we provide.

“It’s wonderful to see that patients trust our amazing doctors and nurses, and I am particularly pleased that our trust scored 9.2 out of 10 when patients were asked if they were well looked after by our non-clinical hospital staff.

"I am proud to say that we were rated as ‘Outstanding’ for caring in our recent CQC inspection, and this alongside these results demonstrates how compassionate care is part of everything our clinical and non-clinical teams do.”

The CQC invited patients aged 16-years-old or older - who had spent at least one night in one of our hospitals between August 2019 and January 2020 - to take part in the survey. Just under 600 of eligible patients responded.

Trusts were given a score out of 10 for each question, with higher scores indicating more positive results.

They also received a rating of ‘Better’, ‘About the same’ or ‘Worse’ when compared with the results from most other trusts.

Julie Dawes added: “It’s really important that we use this feedback to look carefully at areas where we can continue to improve our services, to ensure that our patients have the best possible experience whilst in our care.”
