A HAMPSHIRE woman has been recognised by Boris Johnson for her volunteering "Act of Kindness".

Kerry Snuggs, a volunteer from Portchester who is promoting acts of kindness and tackling loneliness in the Solent community during the pandemic, has received Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s daily Points of Light award.

The Points of Light award winner is the founder of "Acts of Kindness", a community group of more than 200 volunteers which is spreading kindness and tackling loneliness by telephoning those who are feeling isolated and helping over 2,000 people across the area with shopping and collection of medications.

In a personal letter to Kerry, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “In the midst of our battle with Coronavirus, our nation has been uplifted by so many acts of kindness that have united our communities and shown the very best of Britain to the world.

"So I wanted to write to thank you for all that you have done to help thousands across Hampshire with medicines, shopping and friendly telephone calls.

"Your inspiring compassion and dedication have ensured that those who have had to be isolated at this time have not been on their own. I am delighted to be able to recognise you for your service to others by naming you as the UK’s 1421st Point of Light. On behalf of the whole country, congratulations – and thank you!”

On Friday July 10, Kerry's local MP, Suella Braverman, presented her with the award in person.

Suella said: “I am immensely proud that one of Portchester’s own has been awarded this incredible commendation. Kerry is an example to us all of how to spread positivity and help out in the local area and as a community we have felt the full warmth of that kindness. I am looking forward to getting increasingly closely involved with Acts of Kindness in the future, and to wholeheartedly offering my support to the next endeavours they embark on.”

The Prime Minister’s UK daily Points of Light award was first launched in April 2014 to recognise outstanding individuals making a difference where they live, and Kerry is the 1421st person to be recognised.
