TRAFFIC bosses have earmarked £400,000 for a new road crossing in a village near Alresford.

Four Marks will benefit from a new Puffin Crossing adjacent to the A31/Lymington Bottom Road to help more people safely cross the road.

Cllr Rob Humby, executive member for economy, transport and environment, approved the £398,000 project at his recent Decision Day.

He said: “We have been working with Four Marks and Medstead Parish Councils as to the best place that would benefit from enhancements for those walking through the village, and it was agreed that this scheme should go ahead at Lymington Bottom Road. This is an excellent example of joint working and this project will make it much easier for walkers and cyclists to safely get around the village.”

The crossing will be light controlled and will include an extension of an existing central island and footways on either side.

The work will include site clearance, followed by excavation and associated civil engineering works, central island, and footpath works. There will also be some resurfacing followed by high friction surfacing and white lining.

Work is due to start in the autumn and last for around 14 weeks.
