SIR: Having read your report (June 11) on Dr Tim Foster our family was not at all surprised that he returned to St Clement's surgery when he was needed because that's the man that he is.

My husband was taken very very ill five years ago and Dr Foster happened to be on call at that time. He was not our GP then. When he arrived in the early hours of the morning the care and compassion he showed my husband impressed me so much I will never ever forget it. He continued to do this until he retired. He truly is a man in a million. We as a family have nothing but praise and admiration for him. Thank you so much Dr Tim.

Charles and Joy Brown and family,

Chesil Street,

Winchester
