A WINCHESTER woman has made it through to the finals of this year’s Great British Sewing Bee.

Clare Bradley, a respiratory consultant at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, is one of the three finalists in the BBC One show which airs tonight (Wednesday).

She has made it to the final alongside TV supervisor Matt Gage and jewellery designer Nicole Akong, both from London.

In the semi-final, the sewers were tasked with recreating Marliyn Monroe's iconic white dress, using junk to make a sci-fi inspired outfit and design a 1920s flapper dress. Clare won garment of the week with her sci-fi dress.

Tonight she will take part in the transformation challenge to turn a swimsuit and a prom dress into a carnival costume, while for the made-to-measure is a glamorous evening gown.

It was through her mother that Clare was introduced to sewing, she used to make party dresses and taught her to sew when she was eight years old.

The 38-year-old didn’t start sewing in earnest until five years ago when her love of vintage clothing developed. She loves the 1930s and 1940s, and makes the majority of her own clothes using modern copies of vintage patterns.

Tune in to watch Clare in the Great British Sewing Bee final on tonight (Wednesday) at 9pm on BBC1.
