In the year 1989, the Berlin Wall came down, Margaret Thatcher reigned supreme and the first GPS satellite was placed into orbit.
It was also the year that someone took a collection of photographs of Sainsbury's in Kempshott (or Hatch Warren, depending on your disposition).
These stunning pictures showing ordinary scenes hark back to a simpler time of shopping with mum and dad, modest family cars and rock-bottom petrol prices.
With the powder blue skies and fluffy white clouds, somehow everything in these images appears shinier and cleaner than today.
In one wholesome shot, a young boy helping a woman with her shopping.
In another, a man looks up at the petrol prices as he fills his car - perhaps unable to believe his fortune at getting to pay 37p per litre.
The collection of images, collated by Sainsbury's archives, were taken during 1989.
Those who have lived in Basingstoke since the 1990s will recall the brown brick exterior with the older style sign outside the building.
The supermarket underwent a make-over with a modern feel in the 2000s.
