WITH Volunteers’ Week being marked a charity has said “thank you” to all those who give their time to support local communities.

Butterflies Bereavement Support provides care and support to individuals and families both at the time of need and on an ongoing.

Founder Paul Burrows said: “During all the worry, uncertainty and upheaval of the last few weeks, while the Covid-19 pandemic has turned our lives upside down, one spark of positivity has been the massive community response and in particular, the amount of people that have volunteered to help out. From those who have volunteered their services as listeners, to undertaking shopping for clients to being at the end of the phone when people call our helplines.

“Add to this the massive army of volunteers who already regularly give up their spare time to support Butterflies across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight; helping to ensure that essential services are provided, that people can access support groups and social activities, and that our communities can get the help and support they need; and there really is a lot to be thankful for!”

Butterflies is still in need of more volunteers for its Opening Doors community support and friendship project, which aims to alleviate loneliness and encourage greater social interaction during the current restrictions and on a long-term basis.

Offers of support from new volunteers will be greatly received and it is heartening to know that there are people in our communities who can give their time, skills and talents to help others in need.
