A CHILDREN’S author from Kings Worthy has released a trio of new stories, just two years after publishing her first book.

Lesley York has given young readers the chance to continue their journey with Henry the Naughty Raven with three fresh tales.

Following on from her previous book where readers met Henry, the stories showcase Henry and his brother Gordon’s holiday, their return to home at the Tower of London and the visit from their cousins.

“Where the first one finished Henry and his brother were excited to go on holiday, so this one is when they go on holiday for two weeks, all the activities and mischief they get up to,” Lesley said.

“The second story is when they have come back from their holiday telling all the other ravens what they got up to and they start being naughty again.”

She added: “All three just flowed and that is how I wrote them.”

Lesley says that she has written the books with a moral to help children, adding: “although they [the ravens] were mischievous, by learning to be good they got to go on holiday.”

But she also hopes that it will inspire youngsters to dream big when thinking about their futures.

“I am also mildly dyslexic, I always had trouble with reading and spelling at school. I had problems but you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.

“Just because you’ve got dyslexia it shouldn’t stop you.”

The grandmother-of-seven came up with the initial idea for the stories when driving home from work one day.

“On Radio 2 they had an interview with a raven master and spoke about two particular ravens that were particularly naughty from the tower, and I just thought to myself that would make a brilliant book.”

The 65-year-old said that the publishing the books have given her confidence and so her writing journey is not yet at an end. She already has an idea for a new story, this time set in Winchester.

“There is another book I have written already that is called Emily’s Shopping Surprise. She finds a puppy when she goes shopping with her mum and dad in Winchester.”

Henry the Naughty Raven Stories is available to buy on Waterstones, Amazon and publishers Olympia Publishers.
