RESIDENTS have spoken out in fear after watching police cars turn up and hearing screams and shouts in Hatch Warren this afternoon.

A man in his 30s was arrested after he became “threatening towards officers” in Constantine Way, just after 2pm today.

Michael Hogan, 53, from Constantine Way, told the Gazette: “I saw police cars and a postman outside my window.

“My brother turned up and said someone was running up the road. The man shouted get off me, get off me.

“He heard screams and police caught him. It all happened very quickly. If my brother had not of turned up, I would have never known about it.”

Michael said incidents like this are “not usual” in the area but noticed the man in question was playing lots of heavy bass music over the weekend.

The 53-year-old also mentioned that a policewoman turned up yesterday morning and spent over an hour inside the property where the incident unfolded this afternoon.

“It is a very quiet area, so the loud music from the property police were seen coming out of stood out to me,” he added.

Lauren Coleman, 22, from Constantine Way, said: “I saw a police van go down the road and turn back.

“Ten minutes later, a police van carried out the same manoeuvre. I heard someone screaming for help whilst I was watching TV. I run outside the house but did not see anyone.

“Soon enough, the shouting stopped and that’s when I saw police vans turn up and leave the area.

“It was a male sounding voice, loud and powerful. I was worried and don’t like it when people randomly shout for help.”

Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed that the man arrested remains in custody.
