SIR: With the sudden pressure on our local authority finances, adjustments are in order. Some five per cent of my council tax is peeled off and passed to the parish council. South Wonston Parish Council is sitting on a pile of cash, and with no sensible ideas for spending it.

In return for a council precept of £105,000, the grand total of actual decisions during the past year comes to just 17, and dire in their triviality. A fair sample includes:

- A laptop purchase;

- Dynorod to clear Pavillion drains;

- Agreed NOT to resolve ruts on Oxdrove;

- Charges to the Swifts teams to be increased;

- Agreed to increase the Council Tax precept by 2 per cent to £106,260;

- Purchase bird scarer for Recreation ground.

An immediate cut in parish council precepts to 2½ per cent is overdue. Councils have more important uses for our council tax, especially with so many residents furloughed.

Wrights Close,
