POLICE have introduced new parking restrictions at a popular East Dorset beauty spot after a "huge" number of complaints.

The action from officers concerned Eye Bridge in Wimborne.

A spokesperson from East Dorset Police said: "The overflow car park is closed and there is very limited parking. The restrictions are in place until further notice and will be enforced."

Officers were called to the area twice on Monday to reports of breaches of coronavirus regulations.

A Dorset Police spokeswoman said: "At 2.56pm it was reported that several people were in the water and on the bank at Eye Bridge Weir, causing social distancing to be compromised. Officers did not attend as we have no powers to enforce social distancing measures following the amendments to the Government restrictions. We can enforce mass gatherings.

"At 6.34pm it was reported that there was a party in progress with people planning to camp overnight. Officers attended the evening to check whether people were camping, which would not be in the spirit of the restrictions, but no one was found to be in the area. No further police action was needed."
