THE bomb squad had to be called to a major road north of Winchester after a suspected World War Two mortar was discovered.
Hampshire Constabulary were called just before 12.15pm on May 13 after a member of the public found what they believed to be a piece of “historic ordnance” in a ditch near to West Farm, Popham, off the A33.
Police attended to make the area safe and await the arrival of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal.
The experts from the EOD inspected the device which was found to be a dummy.
