COLDEN Common Tennis Club (CCTC) has reopened its doors with strict social distancing rules in place.

Since May 13, residents have been able to pick up their rackets and take to the courts.

Members of the same household can play singles or doubles and members of different households can play singles whilst observing the two-metre law.

Players are limited to bringing three clearly marked balls each and asked not to touch balls belonging to players on another court, other than to kick them back.

Kin Lee, membership secretary, said: "It’s great to see so many people using the courts and every slot was booked on Wednesday."

Chairman Amanda James added: "Members have been keen to get back on court and it’s good to see active play again with players being respectful of each other and observing the restrictive play rules."

Every person entering the courts has to bring hand sanitiser and make sure the entry keypad and gate exit knob are wiped down before and after use.

Coaching has resumed with a limited programme of one-one lessons for children and adults.

Gary Waughman, head coach, is offering NHS staff discounted lessons at £15 per hour.

For non-NHS staff, basic membership costs £35 per household per annum and includes unlimited use of the courts.

Advanced membership costs £75 per household per annum and includes unlimited use of the courts plus additional booking and playing benefits.
