A SPATE of crimes across the New Forest during lockdown has prompted Forestry England to urge people to stay away.

Seven fires, nine incidents of fly-tipping and 10 vehicles damaging the forest driving off-road are just some of the offences being investigated.

Two horse riders and three cyclists have been injured, campers have been moved on and emergency access gates blocked by visitors.

the incidents have all taken place in the last four weeks.

Forestry England's local team continues to work in the forest during the coronavirus crisis in a bid to protect the vulnerable landscape.

The organisation has thanked members of the public who have reported incidents and shared information.

And it has reminded people that the car parks in the New Forest remain closed to support the government guidance to exercise near to your homes and observe social distancing.
